Your future self

How about a different approach to New Year’s resolutions and goal-setting this coming year? Imagine your future self, by asking 7 questions. Visualize the qualities, achievements, and experiences that you want for your future self, a year from now. Who do you want to be at this time next year?

7 Helpful Questions:

  1. What do you look like?

  2. Where do you live?

  3. Who is in your life?

  4. What are you passionate about?

  5. What are your hobbies?

  6. What’s your daily routine?

  7. How do you feel about your accomplishments and experiences?

Your Milestones.

Write your answers to the questions above. Use your imagination! After you’ve done this (and this is the important part), write down the milestones you’ll need to hit in order to be your future self. Be specific, and make your goals realistic.

Why is this helpful?

  • It gives us direction

  • It generates motivation and provides accountability

  • We make better decisions

  • It helps with focus and discipline

  • It provides clearer planning

  • It helps us balance today’s priorities with tomorrow’s possibilities

  • It creates a happier and more secure future

And you can ask that future self of yours for advice and encouragement along the way!

So what about my future self in 20 years? Yes, this exercise is actually most powerful when you start with your much older self, and work your way back. This is what we will do in our upcoming Financial Freedom course in 2024.Imagine ourselves much later in life, to plan for that future.
